I had mixed feelings about getting April - I like a challenge but her deconstructed gothic style is about as far from mine as possible in terms of design but I kind of also had this weird association sense of pride because Miss Johnston hails from the same college (SCAD) that I'm currently in my sophomore year of. Represent, w00t w00t right? And then this challenge key words: covered and gothic worked well for the Emmys but casual chic? That threw me. But then I thought about it and kind of loved the combo because it gave me a chance to do a really sleek fitted jumpsuit (which would work well because April has a very similar, but of course, much taller body type than me) topped off with my signature decadent accessories via body harness format which was actually inspired off her signature PR outfit while she was on the show. There is a hidden zipper in the back to get in and out of it, even though it's not shown. Would this be the most comfy outfit or be super easy to go the bathroom in? Probably not - but would the sake of a little suffering for looking fabulous on the red carpet be worth it? Completely.
Emmy's automatically turned to dresses, but I thought a really luxe style suit would be a really nice standout piece instead and when done well (as the judges will hopefully think so), can be far more elegant and classy than the usual mermaid tail froufrou. I usually don't really specify the make-up/hair but it really pulls the look together.

I think that the chains on the bottom of the shirt subtract from the overall design and they should either be removed, or maybe some should be added to the shoulders or upper bodice, or somewhere on the pants in some fashion. They look out of place on a design that, overall, is practically flawless. I love it <3 The inset detail on the bodice reminds me of muscle structure.
You are completely right. I just looked at this with new eyes and I was like URGGH far too late to remove them now - I think they probably could've been worked into pant fold detail to avoid the military/beyonce influence on the shoulder pieces
I actually would really like to see a bit more of a military influence on it But I LOVE military influence, so that might be a tad biased lol. I think the design still looks great though
